as programming language goes ABB is about the best and most capable. Yaskawa and Kawasaki, the commands and abilities just aren't there to make an amazing product. ABB has always led the way for top line advanced programming that is easy to learn and adaptible. Something as simple as an if/then statement just don't find their way into some of these japanese robots. It is ashame...I prefer to pay the extra money for quality with the ABB.

I agree Shawn. I'd like to make a point here... I've found, in my experience that even though the ABB rapid language does bring a degree of power in as much you have a high level language which is strongly typed there is a weekness. The weekness is, and I choose my words carefully with respect 'Not everyone can program'! This then leads to a situation where problems arise with a robot installation and the robot itself gets blamed instead of the intangible code running, sometimes poorly! I have heard and this is only an opinion and not a fact that the rapid code would suit some users if, in actual fact it was not as powerful...! Again just an opinion..

I agree with that statement. Many programmers have come to us with programming abilities. Or so they thought until they got into multiple part applications and serial communications to vision with multitasking. It isn't per say for the beginner, but again in this feild we find more headstrong arrogance than we do modesty. Most of these "programmers" couldn't find a way to say "I don't know" very hard thing for some to swallow, but it should never be passed along to the robot. And as the industry grows we find more of this and the quality of any robot will only be seen from the quality of the person holding the teach-pendant.

A very valid point. I like to think that programming should be divorced from the syntax etc. Programmers should write programs that are easily read and well structured. I have seen lots of examples from experts that were scrambled together structures that worked but only just.....
